I am a 41 year old woman in transition.
I left a not so secure job in the non-profit world as a grant writer and project director last April. I worked in the non-profit world for over a decade and the constant struggle to stay afloat was taking a toll on my body and mind. To say I needed a break is an understatement. I’m not sure my husband would agree since the household income has been reduced.
In addition to the stress of the work came four deaths in my family within a three year period: my father, both siblings and a first cousin. If this was not enough, my husband and I decided to become therapeutic foster care parents. All of this and we continued our volunteer work for our favorite charities. So much volunteer work in fact that my husband and I won the Junior Family of the Year for the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs for 2005. To win this award a family has to do an insane amount of charitable work while managing to still be married at the end of the year.
Was I crazy? Looking back, maybe. There are a few years that are a complete blur in my overworked memory.
What I hope to share with you are the methods I used to get through the most difficult times in my life. Most were born out of desperation to heal myself. I also would like to reveal to you the steps I am taking to make my home and life more balanced. I am not a life coach, but I have been through enough life experiences dealing with grief, volunteering, fostering emotionally disturbed children and mental health management, to give at least a minimal amount of sage advice.
In loving transition,
Catherine
